DEAR B.A.D. RIDE RIDERS AND SUPPORTERS,
On behalf of Distress Centres, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of you for your support of the B.A.D. Ride (Bikers Against Despair) over the past 21 years. Your efforts have helped provide life sustaining support to the most vulnerable in our community and has had a positive impact on countless lives. You have been instrumental in helping Distress Centres be there for anyone who needs us.
After thoughtful consideration, Distress Centres has made the difficult decision to retire B.A.D. Ride and let it ‘ride off into the sunset’. However we are hopeful that a group of dedicated B.A.D. riders will begin a new tradition and organize a third party Port Dover ride in support of Distress Centres on Friday September 13th, 2019 as part of our World Suicide Prevention Day events. Please contact Tara, Fund Development Officer at tara@torontodistresscentre.com if you think you and your connections could organize a new third party event on Friday 13th.
Once again we thank you all for your support of the B.A.D. Ride over the past 21 years. When we say “There’s a life on the line”, we mean it. Thank you for being an essential link to our lifeline.
Sincerely,
Alison Caird
Executive Director

Ride with us and join the fight against cystic fibrosis
The Ride for the Breath of Life is an annual motorcycle fundraising event in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada at which Riders from all backgrounds band together to help change the face of cystic fibrosis from one of despair to one of hope.
Funds raised through the Ride for the Breath of Life support life-changing cystic fibrosis research, clinical care and advocacy. This support has resulted in outstanding progress in the quality of life for Canadians with cystic fibrosis.
With your help, we are getting even closer to finding a cure for this devastating disease. However, while we have achieved enormous gains in quality of life and life expectancy, we still lose precious young lives to cystic fibrosis every day. Join us at a Ride for the Breath of Life in your community!
Have a safe and fun Ride!

ORIGINS
In 1971 when George Simons gave his son a Rupp minibike, he never dreamt he would be instilling a life-long passion in his son Chris. Chris Simons has since owned several dozen bikes. He knows bikes inside-out and top to bottom. Chris also had a well-known bike shop in Port Dover called 'Biker's Delight'.
The Friday the 13th tradition started in 1981. It was the same year that a group of head-banging teenagers had come together in Los Angeles to form Metallica. Despite a recent assassination attempt, the president of the United States was still Ronald Reagan. Pierre Trudeau was prime minister of Canada, while Bill Davis was premier of Ontario. The Rolling Stones were singing "Start Me Up" and "An American Werewolf in London" was playing in theatres.
Against the backdrop, Chris Simons and approximately 25 friends, through word of mouth, got together at the Commerical Hotel {The Zoo}, now known as Angelos of Dover. It was in November and it was Friday the 13th. They had such a good time they decided they should do it every Friday the 13th. And so the tradition was born.
Every Friday the 13th thereafter, the number of people coming to the event has increased. Chris has a suitcase full of newspaper and magazine clippings regarding Friday the 13th and he has become somewhat of a celebrity because of it. Everywhere he goes, people have heard of Friday the 13th in Port Dover.
